We started our third meeting of the semester at the Berean Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Sweatt. The church is celebrating its 20th year! Pastor Sweatt founded this ministry as a church plant. They have grown to over 500 people with a very nice building, good staff and solid congregation. God has been working in this congregation and a number of people have come into the assembly through conversion. It was thrill to see the Lord at work in the people’s lives.
The week was set up where we had special events with the following schedule:
Tuesday – Ladies' Night
Wednesday – Family Night
Thursday – Men’s Night
Friday - Teen Night
The most encouraging part of the week was the number of visitors the people were able to get to the services. In both the Ladies' and Men’s night there were a total of 70+ visitors total. We had some response to the Gospel message. We always pray for more people to be saved and are never satisfied with what happens. However, we gave it our best and left the results to God.
It was a joy to see my good friend from my Citadel days, Ebbie Taylor. We were very close while in college. It has been a long time since I've seen him. It was a joy to see that he has been going on for the Lord. We renewed our fellowship and were able to spend time in prayer before our departure.
On Friday afternoon, a snowstorm came to Atlanta. I thought the Friday night teen activity would be cancelled. However, Pastor Shawn Kook stayed the course and had the activity. I was shocked to see how many teens came out for the evening.
My wife was scheduled to fly into Atlanta on Friday at 6:15 PM. But because of weather, her flight was diverted to Nashville. The airline supplied a bus to the Atlanta airport. I picked her up at 2:30 AM on slick Georgia roads. We were able to crawl in the bed at 4:00 AM and get a few hours of sleep in order to get up and leave on Saturday for our trip to Columbia, SC. We are thankful for the privilege of serving with Pastor Sweatt and the good people of Berean Baptist Church.
